Horse-y people!

padamoosen:

Can you tell me, are horses bred for competition and racing and such, made to breed in a different time to their natural breeding season?

Like i read that horses would naturally produce foals in spring, but the breeders need them to be born prior of Jan 1st ideally, or something

gfjkhl just if anyone knows anything on this it’d be super helpful

I follow one equestrian.  She might know the answer to this question or know how to get the answer.  Her name is Leila.  Click here for her blog.  (I also sent your question to her ask box just in case this reblog got buried.)

  1. capnstarks said: Yup! Racing horses are bred earlier to get closer to the Jan. 1 date. (Gestation for horses is about 11 months). So they are bred earlier, but not, like, eons before.
